Willie Santiago was my individual flute teacher and our beginning adult band leader. He helped me get over my fears of reading music and progressed me through book 1 of flute. No other teacher has been able to get me through any beginning method books because I resisted learning to read. I play multiple instruments and the flute was another hobby for me. Willie was able to extend my range on the flute and helped with tone control. I had so much fun being in the beginner's band and Willie was great with us older adults in keeping it fun yet moving us forward. He pushed me in individual lessons and I didn't always appreciate this. I asked him to do this and he kept me to my request. Consequently, I progressed much further in my musical goals than with past teachers. 

Additionally Willie is soooo awesome in performance. When he plays it hits me emotionally. If you love flute music, honor yourself and go hear him play.

During my time as the Band Director at PS Jones Middle School, I have been privileged to work in close proximity to East Carolina University. As an alumnus of the university, I have been able to connect with many other high quality musicians, such as Mr. Willie Santiago. I have had the opportunity to bring in Mr. Santiago on multiple occasions, and each time is a sincere pleasure. He has performed for and done masterclass work with my flute students. He knows how to communicate with students, and understands that they are not all of the same ability level, and works with them on whatever level they are on. My students have enjoyed having Mr. Santiago visit, and I believe they are better flute students by having him with us.
